House of Astor

Shakespeare asked, "What's in a name?"

Well, if the name is Astor, the answer is easy.

For more than two hundred years, the Astor name has been synonymous with power, prestige, grandeur, and riches that even royalty would envy. Tracing its roots back to Germany, France and the United Kingdom, the Astor man, John William Astor, built his empire with nothing but his bare hands. He created a legacy that outlived him and became known as one of the richest men in history with all his predecessors inheriting the title that he left behind. The Astor family gained prominence for their hard work and determination, as well as their loyalty to give a hand to those they hold value even in dire situations. The family shaped what is now the elite of Valcoast society, the main insignia for what is all luxurious and unattainable. Their excellence in business and trade gave them the major influence over the city and have imprinted their name on landmarks around the city including their university, parks and the Waldorf-Astoria, the most luxurious hotel chain in the world. The family branched off to pursue other profession and consequently adopted restaurants and cafes and other food industries as part of their business. Having most of the Valcoast land under their territory, the Astor family also handles utilities such as the city’s water, electricity and gas supply. For years, they have led Valcoast with an iron first, but in recent years, they faced a great struggle, a rival who emerged from the ashes. A new force who continue to gained influence over the people of Valcoast. Traditional as they are, the Astors believed that they will remain on top, but with tension escalating to a high, security became an issue and so the family has revealed to be training individuals to secure protection for the family and its riches.

A decade ago from the present, William Astor III revealed his power within those in Valcoast city to establish the untouchable image of the family. Though not supplying the information about the family’s illegal handlings, he did reveal the vast number of men under his command in hopes to show strength and insert fear to his enemies.*

*The Astor family is the only family in Valcoast who has revealed their duality. Though no one mentions nor asks about it in fear of the Astor name.

Connection to the Astor Crime Family

Security became a trivial pursuit within the members of the Astor family. After countless number of assassination attempts and destruction of property, William Astor I, decided to strengthen his men and created a full scale underground mafia. The Astor Mafia deals with the family’s illegal activities such as illegal trades, imports and exports, and transactions as well as handling the security of the family.

Members of the family, the main branch and other relatives, are required to train from the age of 16 to 21 for self-defense. (There are exceptions like Amelia Astor who was trained since she was 10 years old.) Those who decide to stay after turning the legal age would be sorted in the ranks. Those who do not will not be pressured to stay, instead they can continue to pursue a role in the legal family business. Those who decide to do both will continue to train once they turn 21 and only then will be admitted. They all must swear an oath of maximum confidentiality. This oath applies to all who join the ranks from the Boss to its Soldiers. Soldiers ages 18+ are accepted to train and decisions about their admittance will be decided once they turn 20.

  • The ranks is divvied up by the star ranking system. Five stars is the maximum and beyond skill level. That means that the person excel in both combat, use of firearms, and other means. Four stars usually means that the person excels in one specialized use (Ex. Person A is a sniper) while still being able to uphold the means and requirements of the rigors of the mafia life. Three stars means that they are skilled enough to participate in missions, either specializing in combat or use of firearms. Two and below usually works behind the scenes and in the headquarters of the mafia (Ex. Person B in hacking). The stars ranking system doesn't explicitly signify that a person with Five star yield more power. It simply means that their skill is beyond expectations and thus is a huge asset in missions. Power is held by those that shows exceptional leadership.
